On Tuesday, July 2, Minister of labor and social protection of population of RK Berdibek Saparbayev held a meeting with a delegation of the European Bank for reconstruction and development headed by Vice President and Director of risk management and control Ms. Elizabeth Nelson.
During the meeting, issues of further cooperation and promising areas of cooperation in the process of ensuring gender equality in the field of labor were discussed.
In his welcoming speech, the Minister stressed that the legislation of Kazakhstan ensures gender equality in the field of work, including the prevention of discrimination on the basis of gender. At the same time, women are not allowed to be employed in hard work, work with harmful or dangerous working conditions.
"This measure contributes to the protection of motherhood, as well as protects the health of women and is consistent with the principles and provisions of the ILO Convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women" - said Berdibek Saparbayev.
During the conversation, he also spoke about the development of professional standards in Kazakhstan.
"The main priority of the Ministry is to ensure the employment of the population, including the employment of women and youth. In this regard, we are currently working with other government agencies, NCE "Atameken" is developing 38 sectorial qualifications framework and 480 professional standards", - said the Minister.
For her part, Ms. Elizabeth Nelson stressed the importance of joining efforts to further eliminate occupational categories prohibited to women and to develop standards of professional skills.
Elizabeth Nelson also spoke about the Eurasian women's business forum EWBF-2019 in Almaty on June 28 this year. This event, supported by the European Bank for reconstruction and development (EBRD) and USAID, has become a tradition. This year EWBF attracted participants from Kazakhstan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. And four years ago, the forum began as a local platform for women from the sphere of Kazakh business. They gathered to share experiences and find new partners.
