The status of repatriate was extended to those who did not have time to obtain citizenship in Kazakhstan

Since Independence, Kazakhstan has pursued a policy of encouraging the voluntary return of ethnic Kazakhs to the country.

Since 1991, 303 thousand families or 1 million 40 thousand ethnic Kazakhs have returned to their historical homeland and received the status of repatriate, which is almost 6% of the country's population. As a result, the negative migration balance has been reduced and demographic growth has been achieved. Many of them, having received citizenship, along with other citizens of Kazakhstan make a significant contribution to the socio-economic development of our country.

Kazakhstan has created the most favorable conditions for the adaptation and integration of ethnic repatriates. Thus, those who have received the status of repatriate, have the right to acquire citizenship of the Republic of Kazakhstan in a simplified manner (other foreigners must live in Kazakhstan for at least 5 years).

At the same time, the status of repatriate ceases after one year from the date of its receipt. The extension of repatriate status is provided exclusively for the purpose of acquiring citizenship in a simplified manner when applying within six months from the date of termination of repatriate status for a period not exceeding three months.

At present, there are cases when repatriates who have not acquired Kazakhstan citizenship in a simplified manner within the given time, regardless of the cause of this situation, are deprived of such an opportunity. The Ministry of labor and social protection of population has received numerous requests for assistance in this regard.

In this regard, on March 16 this year, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev decided to extend the status of repatriates to acquire citizenship in a simplified manner until December 31, 2019.

Thus, repatriates who have expired status can apply to the local executive bodies to extend it and submit documents to the internal affairs bodies to obtain Kazakhstan citizenship in a simplified manner.
